Differences between the models relate to the number of pickups, and pickup type (single coil P90, or dual-coil humbucker), plus decorative inlays on the higher end models. There have been numerous models, typically constructed of a mahogany body, set mahogany neck and a rosewood fingerboard. In fact the SG can be considered one of the cornerstone models of Gibson's range for over half a century.
The SG is an absolutely classic Gibson model, first shipped in 1961 and available in one form or another ever since.
